The KBOB recommendation contains environmental indicator results of a wide range of building materials, different components of building services, energy carriers and transport processes. treeze and Büro für Umweltchemie carried out a project aiming at an update and expansion of life cycle assessment data in the KBOB recommendation (QualiBOB), which was finished in February 2016. Within the QualiBOB project, the life cycle inventories of gypsum materials, plasters and plaster floors, glazings and window profiles were updated based on industry data. New life cycle inventories were compiled for civil engineering works in building construction, insulating concrete, sun protection, facade claddings, render carrier boards, aerogel as well as for kitchens and kitchen cupboards. Additionally, transports of imported building materials were estimated for all relevant cases in order to represent the current market situation in Switzerland appropriately.

The life cycle assessment data generated in the QualiBOB project will be integrated in the next version of the KBOB recommendation. The updated and expanded life cycle inventories increase the reliability and representativeness of the environmental indicator results listed in the KBOB recommendation and serve building specialists as a basis for the environmental optimization of construction works.
